Sound insulation is about limiting the spread of sound – both airborne and structure-borne – between different spaces or structural components. The aim is to reduce noise, vibrations, and unwanted sound levels, thereby creating a more pleasant and functional environment.
In vehicles, sound-insulating methods and materials are used to prevent engine noise, road noise, and vibrations from entering the cabin and reducing comfort. In buildings, sound insulation is intended to acoustically separate rooms – for example, between flats, offices, or floors – through walls, floors, and ceilings that dampen sound transmission. In public transport – trains, buses, and trams – sound insulation is used to reduce noise from engines, rail contact, and airflow, which improves the working environment for both passengers and staff.
In energy applications, such as power stations, transformer substations, and wind turbines, sound insulation is used to reduce noise levels from machinery and technical installations, as well as to protect the surrounding environment from disturbing noise.
